A Faery Union by Heather Kinnane - Book Preview

Today is release day for A Faery Union by Heather Kinnane. To celebrate this sequel to A Faery Dream, we're sharing a little preview of Heather's new release!

From the Blurb:

“One of the hardest things in this life is listening to the single voice of truth in the noise of opposition. It’s even harder when that voice is your own.”

Human-born Nyssa is destined to be Queen of the Fae, alongside her consort Kellen, the man who literally stepped from her dreams.  But not everyone in Faery is happy about Nyssa’s arrival in their realm, least of all Elfric, self-appointed Chief of the Southern Clans. Elfric isn’t alone in his displeasure, and he has allies in unexpected quarters.

Kellen has struggles of his own, as his previously supportive sister, Nerida, refuses to continue the charade of friendship with Nyssa. Nerida has a deep-seated hatred of humans, and it seems there is little either Nyssa or Kellen can do to change her feelings.

A Faery Union continues the tale of Nyssa and Kellen begun in A Faery Dream, as they fight the outside forces set to tear them apart. Can their love hold strong through the lies and deceit of those around them? Or will Nyssa discover that destiny isn’t always destined to be?

Excerpt:

The vibrant blue filled Nyssa’s vision as she turned her head to look at her new wings. They stretched above her—fine yet stiff as starched silk—and went as low as the top of her calves. If she shifted her focus she could see through them, the gossamer panels giving the impression she looked through stained glass, giving the room beyond a blue tinge.

“They’re the most beautiful wings I’ve ever seen.” Kellen reached out to brush the edge. Nyssa felt a tingle, like someone gently touching her hair, and she shivered. She closed her eyes, aware of the strangest of sensations; the shifting of muscle and sinew as her wings swayed back and forth in a non-existent breeze, and she tried to still the movement.

“I can’t stop it.” Fear bubbled up in her chest. Her mind seemed unable to grasp that these new appendages were attached.

“You will.” Kellen seemed completely unperturbed and Nyssa wished she could feel so at ease.

“What now?” she asked.

“Now we have further proof you’re meant for the role, Nys. You ate of our food, and accepted your place here, and your wings sprouted. From the moment we first met in dream I knew you’d be perfect, and what better sign could there be that I was right!” The grin on his face grew wider as he spoke.

“I’m glad this confirms something for you,” she said, tilting her head to one side. “But it feels so strange. I can’t even control them.”

“Don’t worry about it.” Kellen shrugged. “You’ll get the hang of it. It just takes time.”

“It’s itching.” Nyssa stretched a hand around to rub at the spot on her back where the wings protruded, just below her shoulder blades. She could just reach the muscular stump if she twisted her arm the right way.

“Really?” Kellen laughed. “Well, I guess that will pass too.” He moved behind her to gently drag his fingernails around the base of her wings.

“Keep doing that,” Nyssa said, arching her back to give him easier access. He moved again, and she felt him place a soft kiss between where the two wings emerged.

About the Author:

Heather Kinnane is an author of fantasy and romance living in the island state of Tasmania, Australia. A bit of a hippy at heart, Heather has long had a love affair with the wild places of the world; the forests and woodlands, rivers and lakes, all those places virtually untouched by human hands - though she does feel that a rickety old wooden hut adds to the atmosphere, somewhat better than a nylon tent! ;)

With a fascination with all things magical and mysterious, and a love of writing and reading that stretches as far back into her childhood as she can remember, it's inevitable that all of Heather's stories contain a little bit of the Otherworld, as she weaves tales that share not only the magic present in the world, but also introduces readers to the amazing and incredible landscapes to be found around her island home.
