Welcome to Otherworld! by Jane Godman - Guest Post

Tomorrow is the release day for Otherworld Protector by Jane Godman! This is a great new paranormal romance from Harlequin Nocturne, and one of my favourite aspects of this book is the world building that holds this romance together, so Jane has kindly stopped by to tell us a little about the background to Otherworld!

I'll be sharing my review soon!

Thanks for visiting, Jane.

Welcome to Otherworld!

Welcome to Otherworld! I hope you’ll join me on the journey into this mystical realm. My first paranormal romance, Otherworld Protector, is published by Harlequin Nocturne on December 1st and I was delighted to discover recently that it has been nominated for a RT Reviewer’s Choice Award. But what is the Otherworld Series all about?

I’m fascinated by the ancient Celtic idea of an ‘otherworld’ that is situated, not in some distant, unknown region of planetary space, but here on our own earth just out of sight and within our grasp (if we really believe in it and want it enough).

Frequently, in faerie-lore, Otherworld was a subterranean world entered through caverns, hills, or mountains, and inhabited by many races and orders of beings, such as demons, shades, faeries, and gods. This magical world was divided into districts or kingdoms each with its own ruler, just like the world of mortals.

Sometimes, the Celtic Otherworld was located in the middle of the Western Ocean, as though it were the 'double' of the lost Atlantis. Faerie women came from that mid-Atlantic world in magic boats like spirit boats, to charm away mortal men, or else to take King Arthur when he was wounded unto death. And on that island world there was neither death, nor pain nor suffering. Instead there was only immortal and unfading youth, endless joy and feasting.

Alternatively, at rare intervals, like a phantom, Otherworld appears far out on the Atlantic. As late as the summer of 1908 it is said to have been seen from West Ireland. Or a strange invisible island, inhabited by invisible, faerie gentry, is seen once every seven years near Innishmurray.

I believe the truth is simpler and yet more complex. I like to think Otherworld exists everywhere. It is right here, alongside our mortal realm, just out of sight but easily within reach. All we need is a belief in its existence and a desire to go there.

The Otherworld in my forthcoming series for Harlequin Nocturne is a beautiful place inhabited by many races, including faeries, vampires, lycanthropes, phantoms and gods. Unfortunately, the constant battles between these warring dynasties threaten to spill over into the mortal realm.

Otherworld Protector is the story of what happens when Stella, an ordinary girl, gets caught up in the fight for Otherworld. Of course, this is a romance (a very steamy one!) and, since she is watched over by an invisible protector, Stella may not be quite so ordinary, after all.

Within this story there is a familiar figure, one I’ve always wondered about. Was the great sorcerer Merlin real or legend? I like to think he existed. Perhaps, when you’ve finished reading Otherworld Protector, you will think so too.

Otherworld Protector is the first book in this series, so there will be more opportunities to cross the boundary and meet the compelling heroes who protect Otherworld soon!

About the Author:

I write in a variety of genre. Many of my stories are heavily tinged with the supernatural and elements of horror, with haunted characters tormented by dark secrets.

The Jago Legacy Series, my gothic romances, are love stories with a dash of horror and a creepily ever after.

Set around the Isle of Man (my grandfather's birthplace), my dark erotic romantic suspense books, The Cunning Prophet Series, feature supernatural elements and a charismatic, obsessive villain.

I write steamy historical romance for Samhain Publishing and my Georgian Rebel Series features heroes who fight hard for the cause they believe in and harder for the women they love.

Otherworld Protector, the first in my paranormal series for Harlequin Nocturne will be published in December 2015. Otherworld is a magical realm existing just beyond mortal sight. The Otherworld series tells the stories of the heroes who fight to protect this beautiful place from the battles threatening to tear it apart.

I also enjoy the occasional foray into suspense, horror and thriller writing.

I live in Cheshire, England, am married to a lovely man and mum to two grown up children.
